Charges have been filed against atleast six people involved in the spicy show held on April 11th 2009 at Rommel Resort. Governor Garcia had warned before the show that bikini contest had already been banned in Cebu as they were humiliating to women.

Holy Week In Cebu
Holy Week, Serious In Cebu
Holy Week is taken seriously through out the Philippines. Most of my experience with it has been limited to Cebu. Last year I went up a mountain to witness three men being hung on a cross. In many cases, the men are actually hammered to the cross using nails. Last year in Cebu City they forgot the local anesthesia but the man went through with it anyway. Jessie has an uncle that did it for many years.
Jessie went to Cebu City on Sunday thinking it would be an easier trip than what it normally is but there was much more traffic. It seems lots off people are in Cebu to observe the holiest of weeks. I read a report that the bus and shipping terminals were packed with people on Friday as people prepared to leave. That would back up what Jessie found in Cebu City. She also saw three minor wrecks on her way there. Amazingly in this crazy traffic, well what looks like crazy traffic to me, there are rarely wrecks.
Exploring Religious Culture
Religious Culture In The Philippines
Most Filipino homes have an alter or prayer area set up. Since Jessie and I have had to start over from scratch with basic furniture needs, he have not been able to do that. I wish to furnish my home with a very Filipino theme. For that reason, I have wanted an alter area. Though Jessie doesn’t follow as many traditions as strictly as most Filipino and organized religion has turned her off, mostly due their participation in politics, she very much considers herself Catholic. However, she has many protestant views and didn’t realize it.
We bought some items to introduce some of these practices into our home. Jessie bought some rosary beads for me. I’ve wanted to collect crosses so this also accomplishes that goal.
Basilica of Santo Niño
Santo Nino
Not long after arriving in Cebu, I began to hear of Santo Nino. It was explained to me that it was Christ as a child. He looked much different than the Christ I had seen in pictures all my life. I had been here a few months before I even knew this “doll” I had been seeing was a depiction of the Christ Child.
Yesterday I visited the church where this statue is displayed. Its a very significant part of Cebu history as this statue was giving to the rulers of Cebu in 1521

Bogo City Rules
I’ve been a bit frustrated lately as I’ve not had much to say. i know, it’s not like me, I usually excel at talking about myself. LOL
I’ve been walking. Maybe not as much as I once did but I try hard not to let two days pass where I don’t walk. in other words, i try to walk at least every other day. I didn’t walk today but I did yesterday. And boy my legs hurt.
I’ve had muscle pain for years and I’ve taken a muscle relaxer for years. It is not available here and I’ve
Wow Typhoon Quinta Blows Into Cebu
Typhoon Hits Cebu Without Warning
Yesterday morning I woke up to a storm and the lights going out. I thought, this looks like a typhoon coming in. I’ve only seen one but the weather just looked different enough that it was not your normal monsoon. Since it has been a drier monsoon season than normal, I reasoned that this is what we should have been getting all along.
To be safe, I asked Jessie to send one of the helpers out to get a newspaper. I thought if there was a storm coming in, we needed to know and could get the information from the paper. While she was out, banana bushes begun to topple and even tress where coming down. The wind was not equal to that of Typhoon Frank but Frank was a major storm. Quinta was likely a category one, though I don’t know.
Quiet Fun In The Philippines
Sitting On The Cebuano Dock Of The Bay
Just returned home form the Seaside BBQ here in Bogo City, Philippines. It is Saturday night on All Souls Day, November 1, 2008. We had a quite, peaceful night. It was the yaya’s (Beth) birthday. We gave her a cash gift and she used it to take our helper and the two boys to the BBQ. They told us they were going and we decided to join them.
Reproductive Health Bill in Cebu Province
Philippine Reproductive Health Bill
Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal has placed a petition into circulation that condemns the Reproductive Health bill (RH) being considered by the Philippine national government. This action comes after a similar petition was put into motion in Manila by church officials. The goal is 1 million signatures from Cebu province against that bill.
