Tambayan is Bogo City’s Expat Hangout
In the center of town, near Gaisano, you’ll find a group of expats hanging out and drinking beer at Tambayan. Locals also visit the restaurant, which is a good sign. However, I don’t go there. I’ve been once. The big draw is that it has the cheapest beer that I know of. There are also a lot of Filipina that pass by but, I’m told by the local ladies that girls that go there get a bad reputation fast. This keeps the local women from interacting much with the expats but of course, there are always exceptions.
Its not really my thing to sit around and drink beer all day and its out on the hot street so its not a favorite of mine. If you’re looking for other expats though, you’ll find them here.
You can also find a few down at Pizza Pub which is near the town plaza known as Heritage Square. Don’t get it confused with the smaller Rizal Park which is near by. One of these days I’m going to draw a map of Bogo City but my drawing abilities are not so great. I doubt my accuracy will be all that great either.
I would like to get together with expats in Bogo City but I haven’t been able to find many of them online. I run into one now and then but they seem to disappear after that. I’m not the expat that sits around complaining about things all day long though. I also don’t drink a lot but I wont mind laughing at you if you do. HAHA If you’re not either, contact me by using the menu at the top of the page. Its under the Administrative link.
I think Bogo is a great place for an expat to live. It is cheaper than many places in Cebu and close to Bantayan and Malapascua Islands. It is also a very safe place to live and none of the smog you’ll find a constant within Cebu City. There is very little crime in the Bogo City. The mayor seems to have a firm grasp on that. I’ve said it before that Bogo City has won the Cleanest and Greenest in the Philippines award several times. Best of all, the people of Bogo City are very friendly and have been very helpful to me.

Hi Rusty, I these guys mostly single or are they attached or married? Do you see the same faces there all the time? If they have a partner, how fun can it be to have their husband or boyfriend hanging out there without them? To each his own I guess… The times that I’ve visited Bogo I’ve seen foreigners in Jollibee, but mostly having a partner with them. It almost looked like a meeting they were having, but maybe they were just all there at the same time for lunch. It would be nice for you to find some like -minded expats that you could correspond or meet up with from your town. BBQ by the Bay sounds like a pleasant spot to pass the time.
Tourist often have women with them but the locals usually don’t. I don’t pay that close off attention to them though. I’ve seen white women there from time to time and that usually gets my attention because its pretty rare. I’ve only been once, took Jessie and talked to only one person. ii stayed about 10 minutes and went to the Pizza Pub. I just didn’t see the point.
I’m not sure if it is the same people, all expats look alike to me. LOL Mostly I jest but not entirely. I think most of the guys there are married to their beer. The low cost of beer I think is the main draw and I think there are a LOT of repeat visitors with a mix of nwe folks that trickle through.
I most often go to Jollibee during brownouts and I’m not the only expat that does that. They don’t usually stay for hours upon hours but I’ve been known to stay most of a day until the freaking lights come back on.
Ha ha ha…Rusty ..may I know which Jollibee meal you have grown to order? BTW, as McDo was my very 1st employer, I am loyal to it.
I don’t buy their meals. A bucket of chicken and fries. I love their fries.
Hello Rusty and Queeniebee,
I would imagine that these guys have wife or girlfriends at home. But would you want to sit there all day with your boyfriend or husband while he gets drunk, and tell old “war stories” of when he was young to his drinking buddies. To me that would be very boring to me, and very dull existence. But we have those guys and gals here too…the old “barflys”.
Take care you two,
Danny
Yeah, you have them there cause that’s where they come from. LOL I guess here is in the States?
I have trouble remembering where everyone is at.
They come over here for cheaper beer.
Good beer at that. I don’t mind hanging out with expats, even if they complain a little, we all do that but to sit out in the hot sun on the concrete, why? I don’t get it. The BBQ by the bay is cooler just being off the pavement. Not as many pretty Filipina walking by I guess.
Even the Pizza pub would be nicer and even more Filipina and if you go inside they have aircon.
I doubt they have girlfriends, they wouldn’t let them go out alone but a wife might. LOL
Hello Danny & Rus, No I would not want to sit with my boyfriend all day watching him guzzle beer with his friends. I think if my boyfriend says “I’m going to drink beer with my friends at the pub”, I will tell him to leave his wallet with me. And for every bottle of beer he drinks, there will be one sexy nightie paid for by him – LOL!
Christine, I could live with that…..
which one, leaving the wallet with me or the nightie to be paid for by you for every bottle of beer you drink?
And Danny, why would you end up drinking more? would it be because you will be grieving about how much money you will pay for the nighties? I think you will definitely grieve because the nighties will either have to be French or Victoria’s secret – LOL! I have good taste, and I hope your ladies too. I think they could use some lessons from me, if they have not done so already..
I’ll buy it if you’ll wear it for me.
In your dreams Rus!
I advise you to check out where she’d put it.
So you still like living dangerously, huh? I’m back in Cebu, so I would behave if I were you. I think I saw Jess at the Gaisano Bogo yesterday buying a rather mean looking
bolo (big Filipino machete)
I like being me. I’m not one that marches to anyone else’s drummer. I’ve always been a beat out of step with the rest of the world. Life might be easier if I was more conformist but it just isn’t me.
One thing is for sure, I’m done trying to being anything other than I am.
I’m not living dangerously at least not were Jessie is concerned.
Hello Christine,
I am sorry, but that is a great idea, BUT that would make me drink more…lol.
Salamat kaayo,
Danny
Rusty,
I would drink more because I would have no problems buying sexy nighties for each beer I drank…lol. Of course I know where those expats are from, I was just saying that we have those type here too in Florida, would rather spend time getting drunk with there buddies instead of being with there family or wife.
Ingatz,
Danny
Thanks for the reply Danny. What lucky lady you have! Hope she doesn’t read what you’ve written here, she might take you up on that offer – LOL!
have a nice day…..
Hello Christine,
Rose is more than welcome to read this, and most likely does. I tell her the websites I get a lot of great information about moving to the Philippines. Also, she knows I don’t enjoy drinking anymore, been there, done that, in my younger days. As far as Victoria Secrets is concerned, that is one shopping trip I will be happy to accompany Rose on..and help her pick things out too…lol.
Rose will have to figure out another way for more nighties…lol.
Salamat kaayo,
Danny
Hello Danny, Kumusta? Well, it sounds like your lady Rose is one lucky lass!
I take it, you are not in Philippines yet?
On second thoughts, for those ladies not as lucky as Rose, I would suggest 2 nighties for every bottle of beer. And oh, if he doesn’t come home because he was too pissed, buy yourself a diamond ring and charge it to his credit card -guaranteed to make you feel better – LOL
For those that don’t know “pissed” is British and Ozzie slang for drunk. In much of the world it means mad.
If you mean “mad” as in “angry”, we used the same word, we interchanged them a lot.
I guess we liked to be different!
Kamusta ka Christine,
Christine said:
“And oh, if he doesn’t come home because he was too pissed, buy yourself a diamond ring and charge it to his credit card”.
Oh Christine, you are so bad…woman always try to hit us where it hurts the most…in the wallet….lol. Sure you not American woman??..lol. just teasin’..hehe. I guess the old saying “Alls fair in love and war”…hehe..lol…take care my friends.
Salamat kaayo,
Danny
Hi Danny, kumusta? No, not American woman, just your old fashioned, average Pinay from Oz. …. And yeah, those beer bottles could be worth their weight in gold, huh?
Gidday Rusty
Lol you guys are so good i can see i gotta start drinking so my lady can buy victorias secrets haha or Philippines pajamas with Velcro instead of all those buttons
kindest regards Les
Playboy has some great stuff and Wild Weasel is even hotter and they ship to the Philippines.
Hmmm, maybe I can get Jessie to model some of hers…
Hi Les, good to see joinging us. More the merrier I think. hmmm Philippine pyjamas? What do they look like? I think you should stick to the buttons. I think velcro looked so well, “unsexy”. Unless they have already invented a sexy looking velcro – I am yet to see one, LOL!
In fairness to the gentlemen in the pic, they look like men on the prowl. That bar must be a great place to see & be seen. I don’t know where I’m going at this, Rusty.
Hey Roy,
If I were a single filipina, that would attract me, all those beer bottles on the table…lol.
ingatz,
Danny
I think those bottles are kind of a badge of honor. LOL
I’m not sure its that much of a deterient here. Such a normal thing to see. Often from Filipino and even from women. Though usually only young unmarried women and you don’t see women with them stacked up like that in most cases but I do see it, I’ve taken some of them to the disco….. With Jessie, of course.
Just for the record, I never said a word about these guys having girls or wives at home.
I know one of the guys, he had an on again off again girlfriend. She’s constantly cheating on him but she really loves the guy.
People are funny.
Not my place to judge.
hmm, she’s cheating on him but she really loves him? How does that work Rus???
In my world, if a woman loves her man, she would not cheat on him. Am I missing something here?
Christine, problem is, your world contains many people and not all of them think like you. I don’t know though, you’d have to ask her.
They fight all the time and need to get as far away from each other as they can and they often say they will but they never do.
They are apart now.
Hi Roy, Kumusta? I can only say that if those guys were on the prowl, they were not certainly dressed for the occasion. I think the guy in the blue shirt looked like he is having fun, the one in the white shirt looked as if he’s had enough. And can you blame him? Look at how many bottles of beer there are at that table? I’m looking at a drawerful of sexy nighties there! LOL!
Hi Christine! I think they are dressed for the occassion. Nothing like white men in sandos drinking beer in some bars that can catch attention of the locals who are most likely the ones who are over dressed. LOL.
I think they are dressed pretty much like the locals. I don’t see many over dressed pinay unless they are in uniform and that doesn’t really count.
It’s hot here. LOL Causal dress is the rule.
Not too many coats and ties in Bogo, don’t think I’ve seen a one. Not many aircons either.
Well, there are a lot, that might give someone the wrong impression. But a lot of places do not have aircon, some place to eat don’t have them. I don’t go to those except down at the bay where it is in the open and a breeze. Even there it gets hot. I never go when the suns up.
Different world here, women are attracted by white skin but you can’t hold on to them with that. Its what’s inside they look for, thank God as I ain’t got much to offer on the outside.
Roy and Rusty, I did not mean that those guys should be wearing coat and ties, I mean look at them, I think out of those three, two can do with a good soak and rinse!
Hi Christine, perhaps? I don’t have a smell it pc. LOL
You might be right. Hard to know after what is likely an all day drinking session.
Probably anyone could after that many beers but it may be unsafe to let them near water.
Hey Rusty what s your take on that CID agent Joe Banister and his tax issues?
like to hear your views?
Never heard of him until now.
Quick look at his site, he’s full of crap.
I’m not going to go more into my thoughts becaue this isn’t the right place. I’ll talk more about it on http://rustyferguson.com if you like.
I will say this, the IRS is often hamstrung when it comes to attackers. They can’t release anything about his employment. We don’t know what happened. They can only release information related to a criminal prosecution.
There’s a lot of smoke and mirrors going on.
hey rusty go show the guys you laugh at them and the bs these people write about them and not hide behind your pc im a retierd oil well driller different breed than you, laugh at me to my face see what you get..this was bad and christine ur words are and thoughts are bad
Robert, I would never laugh at you to your face because I don’t laugh at the mentally disabled nor do I communicate with asses.
I agree with your comment there Rusty. The Philippines, for all its faults and failings do still allow freedom of expression. If you don’t like it Robert, go jump in the lake, preferably a flaming hot one!
oh, and by the way, Robert, your surname is missing a letter. The letter “M”. It describes exactly what you are.
Robert Woolley, go get a LIFE! Oh, I’m sorry, you can’t get one from your home country, so you have to come to the Philippines to get one.
Bogo City might seem safe enough, but I would still be cautious. Is Mr. Matinez still Mayor? I can tell you one thing, a fairly well off and well know native of the error and I had lunch in Cebu just before the last election cycle. Seems that the Govenor of Cebu personally requested the he run for Mayor of Bogo, he declined stating that he wanted to keep on living.
I’ve heard some phenominal rumors and I would watch my butt, the leadership in Bogo, San Remigo and certain other township and barangays have such bad reputations I decided not to live there.
Ok, the first comment I read on this thread was by Rusty on October 9th at 8am, his response to this robert person. So tryng to figure out what the beef is, I just read each and every comment to get caught up to speed. I’m still trying to figure out what Rusty did to piss this dude off. Is he one of the honkies in the photo?
I miss Bogo, I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as possible. After reading this thread, I now plan to open my own business there selling velcro nighties
Hi Joe, I think Robert is one of those guys. I think he is the one in the yellow shirt.
And yes, velcro nightie sounds good. You can probably patent it and make a lot of pesos. LOL
Back to court? What happened the first time?
Question? why do we tear each others apart. Help the people that have made a mistake don’t tear them apart. We were all trained by the World Governments to tell on your fellow workers.tell on your neighbors, tell on your family. Wake up and see what you have been taught. Some of the people in this country are insane with power. Give me power so i can destroy my enemies.
Is the Philippines a place to enjoy-Most of the Natives here are great-Some of the Children need a good ARSE wipping spoiled little brats. The more wealthy u get in this country the more corrupt you can become. I HAVE MONEY SO YOU ARE MY SERVANT.
Get off your lazy ARSE and get your self.Take or leave it the truth hurts.
Mustacheo USA—VIA Philippines
Mustacheo,
You have a good heart. In some cases, we need to protect children. I think hitting a child, in a public place, especially that is not your own child or even related to you is unacceptable.
The post I’ve seen this man write are degrading to Filipino.
And which 10 year old child did he take a picture of in her under clothes?????? His, someone else, who was there? Was she swimming where many others were, if so, then that’s common here. Alone with just the person that took the picture and not his child?
In the Philippines, It is illegal to even be in the presence of a child that is not your own child. I don’t understand why this man isn’t be pursued for that.
I don’t know the story and most people don’t tell the whole story, just their side of it but so far it seems condemning. Seeing what I saw him write was worse.
If someone wants to post a link to the post on his website. That’s fine by me.
I saw the picture of the four girls playing in their shorts and bra. They looked like young girls playing and someone took a picture. It didn’t look to me like anything that was untoward. So I don’t know, myself, that anything negative took place.
The pictures he took of full grown women in bathing suits and provocative posses, SO WHAT.
That post I’ve seen going around is disgusting and full of statements that I don’t believe but I could be wrong, it happens from time to time. Hitting that child is horrible. Name calling? I say sticks and stones will…. But I do wish the legal system would deal with that. That threatening email he sent was very disturbing too. From what I’ve seen, not a person I want to hang with. Looks like some of you did though. How did you get that very unflattering picture of him? Surely he didn’t put that up on the net?
Most of you came over here for the pretty women too, well that and the lower cost of living. Nothing wrong with that. You’re objections to this man would hold more credibility if you just kept to the issues of thee children. And his own words about his feelings toward the Philippines.
I don’t know this man and I make no judgment of his character or the validity of what people have to say here. So far i have allowed you guys to tell your story. I would also allow Gordy to respond to it, if he can do so in a civil way.
I will also say in the words off the Black Eyed Peas which front man is Filipino, “Where is the Love.”
I don’t think I censured anything but you’ve threatened me so you are not welcome here any longer. You have lost all crediablity with me. you’re just another hot head that considers himself more important that i ever weill.
You don’t get your way, you attack.
And its very clear from your other post that if someone doens’t live your live style they are to be belittled and better than them. I rarely drink, I don’t hang out with drunks and I did take a skeptical eye because of the obvious campaign to smear this man. There also could be legal issues here. I’m stating the obvious. We know your side of it and your friends side of it. And after this post, I don’t hold any weight to your side of it
If you wan to add me to your wall of shame be my guest. If Gorden does reply here you wont be able to reply to him.
No more post on this issue will stay on the site unless they come from Gorden or whatever his name is. To be honest, I could care less. Why? Because I’m not into making myself so freaking important. Go see a shrink dude.
You’re message was pending for one day. It was posted on the 2nd. Today is the third. The times and dates are there. This is the first time I’ve looked at messages.
I would delete everything from you but I think it tells a story about what is going on here. I think you discredit yourself.
I have never heard of Gordy before in my life.
Ok, I haven’t been on this thread for a while, so I just spent some time trying to catch up. It seems like everybody really has already said pretty much about the topic already, so I guess I’m just absently typing at this point. If anything comes to mind, I’ll surely post it.
Rusty – Hey man how come you have not posted any new stories since Nov of last year. Enjoyed reading your stories and seeing the PICs of the motherland. They were entertaning and informative. What happened?
Lazy. Actually, two things, it became a lot of pressure to write something every day or trying too anyway. I didn’t want this to be pressure.
I quite smoking in September, the first attempt at several tries. I replaced smoking with playing Second Life and got addicted to that.
i think i’ve actually quit smoking now. Don’t really want too but its making me sick, after a few days of smoking my lungs hurt too bad to do it. Sucks cause I like it. Might have something to do with my be lazy though. Actually, I’m sure of it. For me walking and smoking didn’t mix. Going to try to return to my walks this evening. After the sun goes down. Gonna be hard though, my foot so swollen wearing socks is not going to work. Gonna be a very short walk to start.
Oh it was easy, so easy to publish this, once I got around to it.
You’re so good at exposing yourself for the person you are.
When you dot that, rest assured, I will post it.
In fact sorry for the delay, I’ve not been getting emails that make me aware there are post waiting.
You’re a walking example of opening your mouth and removing all doubt what kind of person you are.
You actually resorted to childish name calling referring to rust? ROFL, thank you so much for that, it’s been about 43 years since someone did that. They liked to call me Rusty the Tin Man when i was eight. Nice dude, very nice. LOL
As for your links, any post with them go straight to banned without ever being seen by anyone.
You sent me an email? I didn’t get it. Seems my emails have not been very reliable lately. I changed my email address just now as I found this and several other post that I was not aware of. Some quite amusing.
I don’t think the chimpanzee remark was a very wise thing to say since its often used as a racial slur.
The hero thing, its just a symptom of a personality disorder. They don’t make meds for that. I have been a victim of something I’ve seen on the web. If someone says something about you on the web, its true. Doesn’t matter how far away from the truth it is, its just true and then yes, expanded upon. Nearly anyone that finds themselves in a leadership position on the web will at some point, probably several points, find they too are a victim of the same.
I think I do remember you now, from Paul’s site. Might have even met you. Did you go on one of the monthly boat trips the expats in Cebu sometimes put together? I went on one. Was fun. If I had more energy, I’d like to do the same in Bogo.
Sorry it took me so long to publish this. I didn’t know it was here!
Actually, it was a pleasure to post this.
Sorry for the delay
My wife asked me if your were still around and I said I would go looking for you. I see you still are around. I was in Leyte in Feb. but didn’t go any where else for those two weeks. Looked at some houses to buy but not ready yet. Have to save up some more money to pay for the retirement run. Sure not much rain there. El nino stricks back.
Don, your wife?
Do you have mixed up with someone else or has my memory completely died.
Holy Cow, when expats go crazy!
I decided I should have never let those expats that want to feud and attack each other and put defaming websites up about each other to carry on their non-sense here.
Sooooooooooo I deleted it all. Then I opened this back up for comments for the those that are sane.
That could, however, leave me out. Oh well, I get to comment anyway.
Thank the Lord. You got a good blog here. No need for all that bashing nonsense.
Thanks for the good read and the many deletes.
Have a great day. I will
Gordy Elletson
I noticed someone put up a site bashing your basher.
Not you?
Yeah I’m glad i deleted that junk.
I posted another article about the deletes and someone else got mad at me thinking the article was about him
Nope. What goes around, comes around. Glad to see it but it’s not me. I know not who it is, but my guess is another who was bashed by him.
Ok, I don’t wanna even talk about not talking about it. LOL Hope to see you come around …..
hi rusty!
great site. i am enjoying every second of it here. i haven’t noticed i’m already on it for more that 3 hours. can’t get enough reading the posts and they all interest me. you site is a good way to get rid of stress (LOL) and to reminisce my earlier times in the Philippines; the sound of the birds, the honks of the jeepneys and tricycles, the noise of the children on the streets and the school children going to school and home.
anyway, i’m a filipino too, from bicol (albay), the place where beautiful mayon volcano is located.
keep it up, Kuya. i will be one of your site’s regular visitors.
salamat kaayo (bisaya)
dios mabalos (bicol)
jordan
Jordan, thanks for the kinds words.
I am glad that volcano didn’t blow its top last year. I really want to get up there and see it. you’re still in the Philippines? I get quite a few homesick Filipino passing by. You and they are always welcome.
I’m glad to know that the site as some value. Speaking of sounds, i have a video of the church ringing its bells. I need to dig it up and post it on the site. I hope I don’t forget.
