Philippine Monkey with Tools
Jessie gave Juliet some ice. She was excited about it, mostly because I don’t think she knew exactly what it was. She soon dropped it as she didn’t like holding anything that cold.
She then put it inside the can but that didn’t really solve her problem. It seemed she thought there was something in the middle of it. She put the can on top of it and pushed down on it in an attempt to break it. When that didn’t work, she found some celophane and wrapped in that so she could bit one it.
To the expert that cliamed monkeys don’t use tools, I say you don’t know what your talking about. Juliet uses tools often. Sometimes they are more effective than other times. She seems pretty confused about the ice but its fun to watch her trying to figure it out.

Hi Rusty, I remember seeing one time on the TV about zoo keepers freezing food (fruit, treats, etc) inside ice and giving it to gorillas. It gave them something to do; an entertaining and challenging way to get their food. Put a large stone in the cage (too large for her to pick up and throw) and see if she will break the ice on the stone.
I have a cat that I have trained to come when I whistle and fetch when I throw a ball of fur for it. Anything is possible! You can have fun while Juliet learns to have fun. Be inventive!
You train that cat to bark?
That’s pretty cool.
I think if you got a monkey at a very young age you could train it to get you a beer out of the fridge and open it for you. Though she might throw the bottle at Jessie before she got it to me. LOL Training them not to eat everything int he fridge would be extra hard.
I wish I had the skills to do that.
The rock is a good idea, not sure she’ll eat anything frozen. But yes, anything I can to do provide new stimulus for her is good. We put a swing in her cage last night. Going to have to do it over again. We used guy wire to hang it and she wants something more substanial for her to hold on too. Going to build it with all bamboo and a chain running the the bamboo, at least that is the goal. It will have to wait till next month. The guy wires could get her tangled but I don’t think the risk is very high.
Jessie wants to go to Bantayan Island, so I’m broke again this month. LOL Or I will be after that trip.
Rusty, you know this Bantayan Island trip for Jess is free…..
I wish that were true. Its not free though I did have a P5000 donation toward paying for Juliet’s cage. The trip would have been impossible without that. Jessie’s niece is coming down from Manila and we are taking the 10 year old for his birthday. Was planning on taking him soon anyway.
Nothings free.
That is what I mean Rusty – seeing you won’t have to pay for the cage, then you can use if for Bantayan trip. I know it’s not enough, but it’s something for St. Jess
I’m still broke…
You’re always broke!!
Hey, I’d like to see Juliet, what’s the best time of the day to visit? Does she have naps at any particular time of the day?
Yes, its true, I’m always broke.
Money comes in and I go over my budget and ear mark funds for certain things and then count the money and adjust to what I have. Any you’re right there’s never enough.
1/3 goes to rent and medication. That’s’ why I am working so hard to bring in new money.
No there is no certain time she naps. She doesn’t nap much at all during the day. She’s usually sleeping around 10pm but she wakes pretty easilly most of the time. From time to time when I go out late at night she doesn’t wake up but usually she sleeps lightly.
Send me an email and I’ll send you my text number.. I’ve been sick for the last couple of weeks so give me some time to get up and get moving in case I’ve gone to sleep again. Was running a fever for a few hours last night but I’m 90% sure its lupus made worse by my smoking.
Rusty, my husband had been smoking for a long time and it has been 2 years since he gave it up. He used chantix prescribed by a doctor and it really helped. the drawback is gaining weight but he is trying his best not to gain a lot of weight…he was constantly nibbling pretzels to avoid the pang of lighting a cigarette, He told me that he’s been dreaming of cats in different colors when he started the withdrawal of cigarette smoking. It was hard but he made it, so probably you can try chantix to help you lupus…goodluck.
Terry,
I use to smoke four to five packs of cigarettes a day. As you may be able to guess, I’m a bit obsessive. Something I’ve battled in recent years and mostly over come it. I’m very laid back these days compared to what I use to be. I quite in 1985. I have wanted to try cigars for years and I finally did in Janurary. I handled it pretty good until the last month or so and now I am addicted again. I don’t need to quit but I’m smoking too much and with an enlarged heart, I’m probably going to kill myself if I don’t get a handle on it.
I’ve also been inhaling. I’ve stopped doing that. I need to get back to two or three a week. If I can’t, I’ll have no choice but to just quit again. I do enjoy them.
Jessie has really been on my case about it but I don’t think that’s helpful. She and I are a lot alike in that. We have to decide things on our own.
You gain weight when you stop smoking because nicontine is a stimulant. Its not that you eat more, its that what you eat causes more problems. Though one might eat more to help with the craving for something in your mouth. That’s the psychological addiction. Not everyone that smokes become physically addicted.
I have little doubt that my body is all fouled up from the years of being a chain smoker. Problem is these things are really good.
I can’t keep doing what I’m doing. I’ve been sick for a month now. Its part lupus but the smoking is making it worse. The other day I had a fever for several hours and then it went away. That’s most likely lupus.
RU in the Philippines now? I get confused about when you’re coming.
I look forward to seeing you.
I’m charging admission to see Juliet, cost is four belly dances.
Not yet. In about a week I will be. You are incorrigible. I think I might borrow Madame Lash’s whip when I come to visit Juliet, just to ensure you will behave yourself
I’ll email you before we leave.
Hmm that sounds like fun. I don’t do submissive very well though, I’m pretty much anti-submissive. Ask any woman that’s close to me.
Would be interesting to know what the X2 would say about me. I tried to remain friends with her but she couldn’t stand that I was happy. Shame.
I sure hope Jessie never becomes the X3 but I find that I turn all women into monsters. LOL
OK now i know there are other monkeys in the philippines.
I thought that this might be an easy search for a woman who lived in a provience with monkeys.
Is this monkey you have wild? or Hmm confused here. Where are these monkeys! coming from — one i feel for the one you lost. Then you got another one. So am assuming that now monkeys are all over the philippines.
Just trying to get info on monkeys in the philippines. Are they common. I did not see any when I was in Cebu? hmm
I was going to start looking in BOHOL first but now I might find this woman at all since there are monkey everywhere in the philippines. WHere would a filipina go that they are monkeys in her province! Man I knew it this not going to be easy. Nothing ever is.
Please help here have an ideas? I still feeling BOHOL small monkey anything else it would be a cool trip to the beaches.
My Monkeys are not Tarsier. They are highly protected. Though some can be found in captivity from what I’ve read. I wouldn’t likely take one unless it was in the condition Juliet was.
The first monkey we found while I was walking and fell in love with him. The sold mostly birds but had this wonderful Monkey and we went and bought him. He was in Talisy outside of Cebu City. I don’t remember the correct spelling.
The second monkey was captured by a farmer in Northern Cebu. I have never seen a wild monkey in Cebu but they are here, in the mountains. I don’t know how wide spread. Monkyes are always wild and should be thought of that way, they can be trained though. George, the first monkey was a baby and very tame and a total clown. Juliet was near dead when we got her, It was a rescue. Someone else bought her for me and gave her to me and even paid to have her cage built. She’s tame for me, and very loving. For anyone else, I’d be afraid to let them hold her.
She usually either scared of people and sends a warning call, usually a male that snuck up on her. She pretty much hates all women but as she gets use to them being she tolerates them more unless I’m there and then she constantly threatens them. But if it new woman comes to our place with say one of the maids or my girlfriend, she becomes friends with the woman she is use to and threatens the new woman. She’s all about establishing that she is the boss. She thinks she’s number two in the family hierarchy.
Juliet is a joy for me. I love having her. However, if I thought she could survive on her own, I would release her. It is unlikely any female can survive in the wild alone, they need a troop for protection. She’s also use to humans and would likely look to them for food. We saved her life and she’s reasonably happy but she needs to be jumping from branch to branch. That’s where she belongs and interacting with other monkeys and that’s what she craves.
George, I think might have been captured after his mother was killed but I don’t know that. I do know that he had been hurt and taken great care of. I just don’t know how he got in that condition. He had scars, one of his legs had been broken and healed but it was a bit out of place. He was such fun. We could bring him inside put him on our bed and he’d play with my girlfriends hair and groom her for hours, sleep curled up to her. He had been neutered when I got him and I would not get a male that was that way. I would not pay for a monkey that I didn’t know the history of. Wouldn’t want to encourage their capture.
If they are going to die a slow horrible death, that would be different. Juliet was so boney when we got her. She shivered all the time as she couldn’t regulate her body heat or she was on the verge of shock.
An orphaned monkey got very young would be the only thing that I would consider. George also had his fangs removed. Good idea but I’d talk to a vet as it puts a lot of strain on their other teeth.
